DOMINICAN BOOK CENTRE LTD
For many decades the Catholic Truth Agency was situated at the corner of Independence Square (then marine Square) and Nelson Street, Port of Spain. When the old Cathedral Presbytery was replaced by the present presbytery the CTA had to be re-located. It moved to Charlotte Street but in time this proved not to be viable and so it was closed. A publishing house, St. Dominic Press, was created and many publications were printed and distributed. However, the demand was more than could be published locally and so there was need of a collaborative effort. Fr. Paschal Tiernan imported first books and the religious objects which he sold from the trunk of a small van. That was unsatisfactory so a permanent home was found in St. Finbar’s Church Grounds. The name was changed to The Dominican Book Centre but the raison d’etre continued to be serving the needs of people in a cost effective way. Over the years, the Book Centre has grown and evolved into what is arguably the primary Catholic Christian Reseller in Trinidad and Tobago, and certainly one of the wider known Catholic Book Centres in the region.
