Hi, how are you?

Welcome to the Dominican Order/Order of Preachers. My name is Fr. Dwight Black O.P. I am the newly appointed Vocation Promoter for the Order of Preachers here in the Irish Province Vicariate of Trinidad and Tobago. I am pleased to assist you in discerning your vocation to the Dominican Order as a priest in the Roman Catholic Church.

Jesus “called the Twelve (apostles) together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal”. (Luke 9:1-2). The word vocation comes from the Latin word vocare which means to call. As we see in this verse from scripture, it is Jesus who is calling you to the priesthood. This means that this particular vocation is from Jesus and is towards Jesus. Christ. Jesus is the one who gives power and authority to this vocation, which seeks to dispel elements in our society that imprison it. Thereby, our call is to proclaiming the kingdom of God to the human person and the whole human race.

Since, this is the month of May. A month that is traditionally dedicated to Mary our Mother. I take this opportunity to beg Mary’s intercession for your discernment of your call to the priesthood and for our Order’s vocational promotions. Mary, mother of vocations to the Dominican Priesthood, pray for us.

I can be contacted at Holy Cross Priory, Calvary Hill, Arima.
Phone number: 1-868-667-3208. E-mail: Earthrejection2002@yhaoo.com.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Dwight Black O.P.

Hi!

How is the journey going? Today I had a chat with the web director, he was glad to tell me that we have one hundred and sixty visitors to our website since we added the counter. I must say thanks to those of you who have visited our website. We are urging you though to continue visiting and to invite someone else to do the same.

A vocation to the priesthood is an important vocation in the life of the Catholic Church. This is so because without the priesthood the Church and its sacraments would fall apart. Imagine your parish church without its priest. Life in that parish would be very uncomfortable from a sacramental point of view. The reality may be that there is little or no Mass celebrated, no sacrament of Reconciliation, and no anointing of the sick. When I was in my early twenties, I was made aware of this dilemma by my parish priest. He asked me to go on some retreats in order to see if I could help this situation. You too can help to alleviate this problem in the Church today by saying ‘Yes’ to the priesthood as a Dominican.

Think: Is God is calling you to be a Dominican?. May almighty God richly bless you,

Bye for now.

Yours in Christ

Fr. Dwight Black O.P.
