OBITUARIES

Sr. Ellie Boyce, L.O.P.

Sr. Ellie Boyce was one of the best known members of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic in Trinidad & Tobago. She was born in March 1912 and when sixteen years of age she became a Catholic, in spite of extraordinary opposition from her devout Anglican family. While in her early thirties she joined what was then called the Dominican Third Order or Tertiaries. She belonged to one of the Port of Spain Chapters but in the 1990s she transferred to her home base of Carenage and the St. Albert the Great Chapter. In April 1995 she went to England and married a Trinidadian childhood sweetheart. Her health was not good in that country and she had to return to Trinidad. Her husband died so she never revisited her adopted home. She died on 26 August 2006. She not only served as President of St. Albert the Great Chapter but she was an acknowledged ‘spiritual director’ and font of knowledge of things Dominican for her chapters and for the Lay Fraternities.
